Iron phosphate, also known as ferric phosphate and ferric orthophosphate, is a white, gray-white monoclinic crystal powder with a molecular formula of FePO4. It is a salt of iron salt solution and sodium phosphate, in which iron is positive trivalent. Its main use is in the manufacture of lithium iron phosphate battery materials, catalysts and ceramics.
Chinese Name: Ferric Phosphate
Chinese alias: high iron phosphate
English Name: iron (iii) phosphate tetrahydrate
English alias: Ferric phosphate; Ferric orthophosphate; Iron (III) phosphate; Iron (3+) phosphate
CAS No. 10045-86-0; 31096-47-6
EINECS No. 233-149-7
Molecular formula: FePO4.2H2O for dihydrate and FePO4 for anhydrous substance
Molecular weight: dihydrate 186.82; anhydrous 150.82
It is a kind of salt that reacts with iron salt solution and sodium phosphate.
Color character
The color of high purity ferrophosphate dihydrate is near white or light yellow-white powder. With the loss of crystalline water, the color gradually turns yellow, and pure anhydrous substance is yellow-white powder. The appearance of phosphorus (P) in ferrophosphate dihydrate is grayish white or dark grayish white when it exceeds the standard; for example, the appearance of phosphorus (P) in ferrophosphate dihydrate is dark yellow when it exceeds the standard. The ratio of phosphorus to iron is the most critical index to measure the quality of iron phosphate, and also the most critical factor to determine the quality of lithium iron phosphate. Ferric phosphate dihydrate is dark black or gray-white if there are a large number of divalent iron or sodium, potassium, sulfate and ammonium ions in iron phosphate. Vibration density: 1.13-1.59g/cm3, loose density 0.75-0.97g/cm3. When heated, it is easy to dissolve in hydrochloric acid, but difficult to dissolve in other acids, and almost insoluble in water, acetic acid and alcohol.
